Bill's Eyes

I'm starting to see Bill in these eyes. If I could just paint eyes all day I would be a happy camper!

Coming along...

This painting seems to be coming together much more easily than my painting of Esther. I tried laying in the background color earlier in the process. That seem to have helped. Really, I think it just makes it look like I've done more.... so I feel all puffed up and proud. Oh well. Fake it till you make it, right?

By the way, check out my junky old corner of the basement where I am working. If I am so fortunate as to win some money at this, I might just spend some of it on a nice bright studio!

Working on Bill

Here are the beginnings of Bill's portrait. More photos to come.

Adding the Text

Finally starting to write her story into her face. It is legible enough up close but it seems subtle enough from a distance. I think it will work. You can see in the last photo that I have text in places but it blends in pretty well.

Today, I interviewed Bill Lawson, aged 99. We started with some photos and then got our 2 hour interview underway. This man has led a very interesting and touching life. It was such a pleasure to spend the afternoon with him. I'm not sure yet which of these photos to use for the painting. The first or the second, I think...Probably the second.

Esther: Day 5

I finished painting the face today. I think I'll have a hard time bringing myself to add the words over top.

Cubes?

I am thinking of making these free standing. If I hinge four of them together, they can stand as a cube (4x5x4) with the speakers inside. What do you think? Better to stand in front of one portrait at a time and walk around or better to look at them all lined up on a wall?
